As the Assistant Engineer, you will support the delivery of the Engineering function from procurement of services, surveys and technical reports to support assessments for new site acquisitions. You will assist in the production of highway and water authority compliant planning layouts and engineering designs along with a satisfactory resolution to engineering issues identified as part of the planning application process. 

You will also assist in the commissioning of design drawings, reports and all relevant matters pertaining to CDM and health and safety ensuring that all information is available to support concept/tender/pre-start meetings. 

It will be your responsibility to instruct, supervise, and monitor engineering consultants on all aspects of engineering work to secure relevant technical approvals and discharge of planning/NHBC conditions.

What you will do:

Preparation of Viabilities 

  • Have experience in the interpretation and instruction of geo-technical reports.  
  • Assist with securing any technical reports required to inform land viability. 
  • To procure and assist with design input for initial  
  • Interpret topographical surveys and summarise levels. 
  • Procure budget service enquiries for supply, and diversions. 

Resolve Engineering Issues as part of Planning Application  

  • Assist in Co-ordination and management of consultants to resolve any issues. 
  • Manage the delivery of supporting information, such as finished floor levels, site sections and tracking. 

Ensure compliance with building regulations and NHBC standards. 

  • Manage technical submissions to highway/ water authorities. 
  • Secure technical approvals which may involve external consultants. 
  • Assist with arranging the completion of legal agreements for highway, drainage and services procurement. 
  • Issue and manage drawings/information internally and externally. 
  • Assist production team with resolution of any site issues. 
  • Collate and submit engineering drawings to discharge NHBC conditions. 
  • Ensure all Information is Available for Concept/Tender/Pre-Start Meetings 
  • Ensure all engineering drawings including foundation recommendations are available. 
  • Obtain cost effective solutions for mains service delivery. 
  • Assist in checking designs to make sure they are the most commercially viable.  
  • Produce health and safety CDM packs to support tender process. 

General 

  • Assist with road and sewer/public open space adoption. 
  • Undertake site visits when required. 
  • Undertake any other duties as requested by the Technical Director, Engineering Manager and Senior Engineer 

What you will have:

  • Hold or working towards an engineering related qualification, degree or equivalent. A degree or higher education course which ideally is accredited by the Institution for Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Institute of Chartered Engineers (ICE). 
  • Have an awareness of road and sewer design and the technical approval process. 
  • Skilled on AutoCAD 
  • Ideally be familiar with WinDES and PDS, (training is available). 
  • Experience with service delivery to site 
  • Basic structural understanding
