Assistant Finance Manager

Each of Taylor Wimpey’s regional businesses has a finance team that drives the commercial performance of their respective business and are responsible for providing valuable reports to our Group Finance team based in Head Office. Led by their Finance Director, each of these teams are vital to the financial structure of the organisation. Through quarterly forecasts and monthly accounts, they provide key data to the board and enable some of the most important strategic decisions for the business. 

The Assistant Finance Manager is key to assisting the Finance Manager in preparing the monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow and Land Bank Reporting) and the supplementary reporting of data and information to Group. The role is to run controlled finance processes and delivering accurate outputs in a timely manner.

The role will deputise for the BU’s Finance Manager (FM) at business unit level. The individual will have a process improvement mindset / approach

What you will do:

  • Manage the consolidated monthly close process, ensuring a clean close of all sub-ledgers, interfaces, and accounting judgements, with the general ledger closed by WD3.
  • Prepare and Process month end journals
  • Preparation of monthly management reporting for the BU. Include commentary which explains both YTD and full year
  • forecast variances from budget (or forecast), for review by the FM and FD and incorporation in the monthly BUMT Board
  • Report. The analysis will reflect operational understanding.
  • Prepare and Review balance sheet reconciliations, including entries and accounts managed by central teams (e.g. payroll
  • accounting), ensuring that items are correctly analysed and any accounting anomalies are cleared on a timely basis.
  • Highlight issues to the FM during review
  • Account, forecast and report on cost excesses/ savings
  • Work alongside the FM and FD in compiling the annual budgeting and planning process
  • Explanation and demonstration of the key budget outputs across BU departments, often to a non-financial audience.
  • Ensure Finance Manual procedures are complied with and timely dispensation sought where appropriate.
  • Support Finance Manager with the external and internal audit processes, as well as statutory account preparation as required
  • Engage with the BU teams to ensure TW Group financial policy and statutory requirements are met and complied with throughout the BU
  • Oversee the Weekly Sales Reporting, and providing support as required to ad hoc requests
  • Provide cover for the monthly payroll process and review of weekly payroll
  • Reconcile Sales Commissions to minimize business risks on a monthly basis, utilizing the Sales team where necessary
  • Update and monitor key business unit trackers – S106 Tracker, Overage Tracker and Direct Selling budget model
  • Support the Finance Manager with Group required Annual Tax Packs – PSA, Corporation Tax
  • Positively contribute to the Finance Leadership team to manage, guide and motivate the Finance team
  • Provide cover for direct reports and peers as required
  • Other Ad hoc projects, processes and procedures as required.

What you will have:

  • Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA, with prior experience of working as a financial
  • accountant (or external auditor) and management accountant.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and Excel in particular
  • Previous industry experience - preferred​
