Job Summary

  • This is an experienced management role within Taylor Wimpey IT, responsible for delivering agreed outcomes from projects using appropriate project management techniques, collaboration, leadership and governance.
  • This position will be responsible for the management of one or more medium to large sized, moderately to highly complex projects.  
  • This role will involve managing the effort end-to-end with oversight of both analysis and development resources.  
  • This role is also responsible for scoping, planning, executing, and monitoring the project to keep projects on schedule and to budget.  
  • This role is also involves managing the relationship between technology and the business at the project level.  
  • Role responsibilities include components of resource management, finance management, quality management, control management and business continuity management.

This role includes attending our Solihull office 3 days a week however flexibility is required on occasion depending on project.

Primary Responsibilities

Project Planning:

  • Developing project plans to manage the end-to-end project activities and execution approach
  • Selecting techniques and life cycle models based on the context of the project
  • Establishing team structures and a collaborative working environment
  • Supporting the development and management of project business cases
  • Utilising a rigorous process of defining client requirements and project specifications
  • Helping analyse and discuss the potential risks / benefits involved in using the specified technology solution to address the business requirement
  • Defining deliverables, milestones and dependencies

Project Implementation & Management:

  • Coordinating with Programme Managers and the Head of Projects and Transformation to select core team and communicate approach, presenting plans and gaining sign-off from the business and IT Leadership
  • Developing and executing project plans, including scope, timelines, and budgets.
  • Using visual techniques for project tracking and reporting
  • Tracking activities against the project schedule and RAID logs, managing stakeholder involvement as appropriate.
  • Agreeing constraints of cost, timescales, quality and scope
  • Reviewing experiences and learning from current and previous projects
  • Optimise utilisation of talent through specific development programmes
  • Leading the post-implementation review evaluating project results, including client satisfaction

Project Monitoring:

  • Monitoring projects on an ongoing basis, evaluating progress and quality, managing issue resolution process and taking corrective action as necessary
  • Promoting and monitoring compliance of activities with audit and information risk policies
  • Managing the process to assess gaps and develop action plans to address these gaps
  • Monitoring financial delivery and issue management processes, escalating issues and variances to budgets where necessary
  • Analysing financial reports, trends to identify opportunities and resolve issues
  • Setting up and facilitating effective project governance and controls
  • Delivering in line with Business Case and/or strategic priorities

Risk Mitigation:

  • Managing day-to-day workload of team members proactively identifying and resolving issues that would present a risk to on-time implementation of the program / project
  • Applying change control and risk management processes
  • Providing and implementing action plans to mitigate risk, when applicable
  • People Management:
  • Proactively promoting consistent project-based performance measurement and skill development in team
  • Actively participating in HR performance measurement processes
  • Promoting effective teamwork
  • Providing input to staffing plans at the project-level to identify key / required skills

Knowledge Sharing / Management:

  • Promoting the use of knowledge management processes and tools
  • Identify / leveraging successful products, processes and best practices across technology
  • Implementing communication and knowledge sharing process for team members
  • Assisting in evaluating knowledge-sharing tools and making recommendations for technology organisation’s standard approaches / tools
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by leveraging quality improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Refining and enhancing technology methodologies and / or standards
  • Ensuring documentation is captured in a document management system; publicise deliverable location to the organisation as necessary
